Good grammar helps you speak and write English clearly and confidently. The good news is that there are excellent, reliable websites where you can learn and practise English grammar online, many of them free. Here are some of the best.
LearnEnglish from the British Council has clear grammar explanations organised by level, with practice exercises to check your understanding. It also offers vocabulary, listening and reading practice.
BBC Learning English offers short grammar lessons, videos and quizzes, plus courses for different levels. It's a great way to practise grammar and listening at the same time.
As well as definitions, the Cambridge Dictionary grammar section explains English grammar points in detail, with lots of real examples of British English.
Oxford Learner's Dictionaries show how words are used in sentences, including the grammar patterns that go with them, such as which preposition follows a verb.
Tools such as Grammarly can highlight possible grammar and spelling mistakes in your writing. Use them to notice your errors, but always think about why a correction is suggested, because automatic tools are not always right.
Websites are a great way to practise, but a teacher can explain your specific mistakes and help you use grammar naturally. Take our free English level test and explore our English courses in the UK or online English lessons.
