  Student Welfare, Care & Safeguarding

At ILC, your safety and wellbeing are our top priorities. Our Student Services Team and all staff members are friendly, supportive, and always available to help during your stay.You will meet the team on your first day, and you can speak to them at any time for assistance with:

> Visa information

> Local area guidance

> Public transport

> Finding doctors and dentists

> Opening a bank account

> Any other questions or concerns

The Student Services Team takes particular responsibility for student welfare, but all staff are trained and ready to support students whenever needed.

Care & Supervision for Students Under 18

ILC follows the guidance and good practice recommendations provided by the British Council for the care of students under 18.

Daily Registration & Attendance

> Students must register at reception each morning upon arrival.

> Students must also report to reception before leaving the centre and inform staff where they are going.

Evening Return Times

All students under 18 must return to their homestay accommodation for their evening meal by 18:00.

A member of staff will always be available to help. If the student is part of a group, the Group Leader will also be contacted.

Student Supervision

> Students under 18 are supervised on-site during breaks unless they are individual 16–17-year-olds studying on an adult course.

> Students aged 16–17 may join open enrolment adult classes with written permission from a parent or guardian.

> Students of different sexes are not accommodated together unless specifically requested by parents or guardians.

> Under 18s are never left unsupervised at night in homestay accommodation.

> All homestay providers and household members aged 18+ are DBS checked.

> Excursions maintain a supervision ratio of 1 staff member to 15 students.

> All students receive a student card containing emergency contact information.

> Teaching staff are informed whenever students under 18 are in their classes.

> Every staff member working with under 18s has completed an Enhanced DBS Check.

These are shared with students before their course begins.

Unsupervised Times

Individual Students Aged 16–17

Students aged 16–17 are supervised during:

> Lesson times

> ILC activities

> ILC trips and excursions

Depending on the course type, students may be unsupervised during the following times:

Weekend supervision depends on whether students:

> Spend time with their homestay provider

> Attend an ILC trip

> Go out independently

ILC activities take place daily between 15:00 and 16:00 and are fully supervised.
Students may go out in the evening with parent/guardian permission until their curfew time. During this period, they may be unsupervised.






Child Protection & Safeguarding

ILC takes safeguarding and child protection extremely seriously. We are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and secure environment for all students.We implement clear procedures for identifying and reporting any actual or suspected cases of harm or abuse.

Our Commitment

> All staff complete safeguarding training.All staff working with under 18s have Enhanced DBS checks.

> Safeguarding procedures are regularly reviewed and updated.

> Students are encouraged to speak to staff if they have any concerns.

Group Students & Group Leaders

Most students under 18 attend ILC as part of a school or educational group accompanied by at least one Group Leader.

Separate guidance is provided for Group Leaders to help them support students and work alongside ILC staff.
Group Leaders are required to:

> Accompany students on all excursions

> Attend afternoon and evening group activities

> Assist with student welfare and supervision throughout the programme
