Birmingham is one of the places to sightsee and most interesting cities in the UK. It's full of hidden gems, from museums to art galleries. Whether you're looking for something offbeat or a more traditional experience, Birmingham has it all! Let's take a look at attractions in Birmingham and places to visit in Birmingham.
The Rotunda is a unique building in Birmingham city centre, and it is worth a visit. It's circular and has a dome, which makes it stand out from other buildings in the city. The rotunda is part of the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery complex, but it also houses some interesting historical artefacts on its own:
The Botanical Gardens are a great place to visit for relaxation and for the kids. There is a cafe and restaurant in the gardens, so you can enjoy your lunch with views of exotic plants or flowers.
There are many different plants and flowers to see, including trees from around the world that have been planted over time. You could even go on a guided tour of these gardens if you wanted!
Thinktank Science Museum is located on Birmingham's Broad Street and is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission costs around $19 for adults and $14 for children over three years old, making it one of the more expensive attractions on this list.
The museum has several permanent exhibitions including "The Cube" which houses a collection of 30 interactive displays that allow visitors to learn about science through play; "Inside Space" where you can sit inside a real rocket engine; and "We Are Stardust" which explores how humans are connected with everything else in the universe (including galaxies).
Thinktank was recently voted the best science museum in Europe by TripAdvisor users - so if you're looking for something different from your usual tourist attraction then this could be just what you're looking for!
Located within a building that was built in 1879 and once housed the Lapworth Museum of Geology, this museum is now home to the Lapworth Museum of Minerals. The Lapworth family donated their collection to Birmingham Museums Trust, which continues to add new specimens every year. You'll find fossils, minerals and meteorites here as well as information about how they were formed or discovered.
The museum is run by volunteers so opening times may vary - check before you go!
David Hockney Gallery, Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA).
The gallery is dedicated to the work of David Hockney, one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. It houses a permanent collection featuring over 2,000 drawings and paintings from his early years up until now as well as prints and photography.
IKON Gallery and Studio Theatre is a contemporary art gallery in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham, England. It was opened in 2000 and is the largest regional gallery in the UK, with over 5500 square metres of exhibition space including two main galleries, an education centre and a studio theatre. The building also houses a bookshop run by The Art Bookshop Limited; this shop sells books on fine art as well as prints from artists represented by IKON Gallery.
IKON is a not-for-profit organisation whose stated mission is "to inspire appreciation and enjoyment through excellent collections focused on 20th-century British artists working with photography, painting & sculpture".
Cadbury World is a museum of chocolate, located in Bournville, Birmingham, England. It opened in 1990 and was the first museum to be opened by Cadbury's since 1921. The attraction is owned by Mondelez International (formerly Kraft Foods).
Cadbury World features several exhibits on the history of chocolate production, including a demonstration of how chocolate is made using cocoa beans from around the world; an exhibit about cocoa trees; an opportunity for visitors to taste different types of milk chocolate and dark chocolate bars from around the world; and a chance for children to make their own mini Cadbury Dairy Milk Bars using liquid chocolate mixers provided at each station (the final product must be eaten immediately).
The Birmingham Back to Backs is a unique way of living that was once common in many cities. It's also an important piece of history and a great place to visit, especially if you want to see how people used to live in the past. The restored buildings are now home to shops, restaurants and hotels - perfect for spending an afternoon exploring!
You can find all kinds of things here: food stalls serving traditional British dishes like fish & chips or bangers & mash; shops selling handmade toys; pubs serving traditional ale on tap; even a small cinema showing classic films from around the world (and subtitles!). There's even an art gallery where local artists display their work throughout each year so there's always something new on display when visiting again later down the road too!
